ARTIST STATEMENT:
To me the beauty of painting lies not only in the image created, but in the very medium itself.
The body and texture of paint can be used to create art not only as a picture, but in the physicality of each brushstroke. To see a painting with lively marks and textures is almost like watching the process of painting, as well as simultaneously seeing the finished work.
It is this beauty of form, color and texture that I attempt to bring forth in my product. To capture the quintessential essence of the stroke, be it of knife or brush.
To express not only an image, but a process
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
I have been pretty much surrounded by art my entire life. Most of my family is involved in artistic endeavors to some extent, be it writing, sculpture, painting, or architecture. However, I did not discover my own artistic voice until college, when I signed up for a drawing class on a whim. I discovered my true passion for painting and I studied both at the University of Pennsylvania, and with various artists individually.
I find myself drawn to expressive, evocative works which has lead me to gravitate toward encaustic and acrylic painting, both of which are very spontaneous, expressive mediums. My work tends to incorporate a lot of textures and colors - often I paint entirely with a painting knife, leaving the strokes to imply and add detail.
To date, my work has sold to collectors in the U.S. and internationally.
